Creating Flash Video
Contents
Introduction
This tutorial covers creating Flash Video (.flv) files using Adobe Flash (8.0 or higher).
Prerequisites
Almost any movie file can be used. If you have an image-sequence, renderings from Maya for instance, you need to convert it into a movie first. This can be achieved using Adobe Premiere.
Import movie
Open Adobe Flash and start a new Flash Document.
Select Video
Go to File > Import > Import Video. Select the file you want to convert to Flash Video.
Deployment
Choose Progressive download form server.
Encoding
Select a compression Method. Recommended is Flash 8 (or higher) Medium or High. You may tweak the settings by clicking Show Advanced settings.
Skinning
Selecting a skin depends on the intended use of your FLV-file. When inserting it as a media object in Dreamweaver or when adding it to an existing web-environment that already has a Flash Video Player, you may select None.
If you want Adobe Flash to create a web-page when publishing your Flash Document, select a skin here.
Finish
Finish the import. Flash will ask for a location and name for the Flash Document. The Flash Video (.flv) file will be saved in the same location. The encoding may take some time, depending on the size and quality settings of your movie.
Finalizing
If the .flv-file is the only file that is needed, you're finish. You can copy the Flash Video file (with the same name as your original movie, but with .flv extension) from the same location where your Flash Document is saved and close Adobe Flash.
If you want Adobe Flash to generate a basic web page with your selected Skin and flash Video file, go to File > Publish.
