Introduction
To be able to use AutoCAD 2009 the way we're accustom to at the Faculty of Architecture, using the AutoCAD-classic style, you have to make some changes before you can start.
Starting AutoCAD 2009
The exact location in the Start menu may vary from semester to semester. It's probably somewhere in either an Autodesk, or Engineering folder under Programs in the Start menu.
The Interface is probably in the 2D Drafting and Annotation workspace:
Workspace
First we're going to change to the classic workspace. Click the gear icon in the bottom of the screen:
Select AutoCAD Classic. AutoCAD should now change it's menu layout to the classic mode and should look something like this:
Colors
You may want to change the color scheme to more appropriate colors.
Go to Tools > Options. Select the Display tab:
Click the Colors button:
Click Restore classic colors. A warning will appear:
Click Restore, then click Apply and Close. Then close the Options window.
Your AutoCAD should now look something like this:
File Template
When you start a new drawing (File > New), make sure you use the acadiso.dwt template.
This ensures that you're using the proper document setup.
Units and Precision
For architecture, its customary to setup your drawing in millimeters. Ensure that your drawing is setup properly:
Go to Format > Units:
- set Units to millimeters
- set Length Type to Decimal
- set Length Precision to 0
